Silver Ships Delivers Special Purpose Craft to Texas Coast Guard Station
Silver Ships was recently featured in WorkBoat Magazine, ‘Silver Ships delivers seventh special purpose craft to Texas Coast Guard station,’ marking the seventh SPC-LE2 boat delivered to a U.S. Coast Guard Station.
Silver Ships Inc., Mobile, Ala., today delivered the seventh special purpose craft, law enforcement – second generation (SPC-LE2) vessel to a U.S. Coast Guard station in Texas. The 11-meter (36’) aluminum response boat, known informally as the “Coast Guard 36” for its hull length, will be used for law enforcement, search and rescue, coastal security, and environmental protection missions, Silver Ships said in a social media post.
The Coast Guard SPC-LE2 boats are part of a multi-year program that includes deliveries to stations along the East Coast, Gulf Coast, and West Coast. These vessels are armed and designed for operation in a variety of conditions, including patrol duties along U.S. borders and throughout the Caribbean, Silver Ships said. Additional SPC-LE2 deliveries have already been made to Coast Guard Station Miami Beach, Fla.; Station South Padre Island, Texas; and the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy in Charleston, S.C.
The SPC-LE2 is one of five vessel variants included in the Naval Special Warfare Surface Support Craft contract awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The contract supports the procurement of up to 110 craft, including accessories, parts, and training. The delivery order is valued at $8.2 million under a firm-fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract (N00024-21-D-2205), with options that could bring the total contract value to $51.6 million. Production is scheduled through 2026–2027.
