Silver Ships Delivers Cutting-Edge Catamaran to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Silver Ships, a leader in aluminum workboat manufacturing, recently delivered a Catamaran 26, to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District. This delivery marks a significant enhancement in the capabilities of the USACE, particularly in conducting precise hydrographic survey operations essential for maintaining the safety and navigability of the Mississippi River and its federal channels.

The Catamaran 26 is designed with a focus on stability and maneuverability, crucial for the diverse and challenging waterways it will navigate. Measuring 26 feet in length with a 9’- 6” beam, the vessel is equipped with twin 250 HP Mercury Sea Pros and a Honda Eu7000is generator. This setup ensures optimal performance under various environmental conditions. Additionally, the vessel includes a state-of-the-art Hummingbird SOLIX 10 navigation package with radar, enhancing its survey and navigation capabilities.

In tribute to Michael Ducarpe, a former supervisor of the USACE Channel Survey Section who passed away, the vessel was christened the Motor Vessel Ducarpe. Ducarpe’s dedication and leadership have left a lasting impact on the district, and naming the vessel in his honor reflects his enduring legacy at the USACE.

With advanced onboard equipment such as the Teledyne Marine Echotrac E20 echosounder and Velodyne VLP16 LiDAR sensor, the Catamaran 26 is customized to significantly enhance the district’s survey capabilities. This vessel not only represents a step forward in maritime technology but also reinforces the commitment to safety and reliability in navigation, ensuring the waterways remain safe for all users.
