Silver Ships’ Tobin Named WorkBoat’s 10 Significant Boats of 2022

Silver Ships Inc. is proud to announce that Tobin, the largest marine hydrographic survey vessel in the Silver Ships Endeavor workboat series, has been selected as one of WorkBoat’s 10 Significant Boats of 2022. From these 10 boats, WorkBoat’s 2022 Boat of the Year will be chosen.

Tobin is custom designed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Venice Sub Office in Venice, Louisiana to hydrographically map the mouth of the Mississippi River. The mission-specific vessel allows researchers to accurately and effectively obtain and document data on the rapidly changing waters of the Mississippi River. With the intent of keeping waterways open and preventing obstructions to marine navigation, Tobin is equipped to handle challenging river terrain. Tobin’s custom design is fit for conducting river condition surveys to further the safety of marine operations.

This vessel’s name honors Thomas G. Tobin who worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District for more than 30 years as a brilliant engineer and programmer developing systems that automate the processing and mapping of daily navigation condition surveys collected.

“Silver Ships is honored Tobin has been named as one of WorkBoat’s 10 Significant Boats of 2022. Our team worked closely with top marine vendors to not only build Silver Ships’ largest Endeavor series model but also exceed USACE expectations with cutting-edge technology,” says Steven Clarke, Silver Ships CEO. “We are proud to be recognized by WorkBoat, as a testament to our entire team’s hard work building high-quality aluminum workboats.”

Tobin’s design team and overall workboat innovation will be recognized during a Happy Hour, sponsored by Travelers, at the International WorkBoat Show on Wednesday, November 30 in New Orleans. The 2022 Boat of the Year will be selected by WorkBoat subscribers through online voting and will be announced at the Happy Hour at International WorkBoat Show.
