Good Day,
Just a little story,
Tuesday of last week, a 125 meter, 5996 Gross Ton cargo ship lost its main engine and generators whilst going alongside. In an effort to avoid contact with other vessels in the direct vicinity, the pilot boat was used. As soon as it was seen that direct contact with the yacht on the dock had been avoided, the pilot boat was dispatched towards the stern of the containership. It had to maneuver between the cargo ship going astern at 1 knot and a cruise ship alongside the dock.
They got in there, got the bow of the pilot boat on the stern of the container ship, stopped her stern way and got her moving ahead at one knot. The closest they came between the two ships was from the stern platform of the pilot boat and the side of the cruise ship, a foot and a half to spare. Water was spraying up the side of the ship from the Pilot boats wash, contact was avoided.
They finished the job by running lines and pushing the cargo ship to the dock.
- Just another day in the port. This time with a good tool to work with.
